Built-in Reports

11 Built-in Reports for Apache Tomcat

Out-of-the-box reports for every Tomcat instance you monitor — load, performance, memory, datasources, and top applications/servlets — rendered natively inside Oracle Enterprise Manager.

Apache Tomcat Load

Total load on all global request processors, aggregated at the server level.

Top 10 Applications by Sessions Created Rate

Ranked leaderboard of the 10 busiest applications by session churn over the last 24 hours.

Top 10 Servlets by Request Rate

Ranked leaderboard of the 10 busiest servlets by request rate — with average class-load time, load time, max time, processing time, and error count.

Apache Tomcat Thread Pools

Active threads and total threads per thread pool, across every Tomcat target you monitor.

Memory Utilization

Heap, non-heap, and memory-pool utilization charts for the JVM backing Tomcat.

Datasources

Active and idle connections for every JNDI datasource registered with Tomcat.

Enterprise-Grade Capabilities

Go beyond passive monitoring. Control the Tomcat service, start and stop deployed applications, validate configuration, and capture configuration history — all without leaving Oracle Enterprise Manager.

JMX-Based Deep Monitoring

27 metric groups and 303 metric columns delivered over JMX — covering availability, request processing, servlets, JSPs, applications, sessions, thread pools, JVM memory, garbage collection, clustering, and datasources.

Tomcat Service Control from OEM

Start, stop, and run a live configuration test against the Tomcat server directly from Enterprise Manager. Jobs execute via Management Agent using host OS credentials on both Windows and Linux.

Application Lifecycle Control

Start and stop individual deployed applications on a running Tomcat instance — over JMX, without restarting the server or opening a terminal session.

Configuration Snapshot & Change Tracking

Capture six configuration tables — Connector, Data Source, Web Module, Manager, Cluster Membership, and Memory — into OEM's ECM store, enabling configuration history, comparison, and change detection. Roughly 100 attributes tracked in total.

Top-N Application and Servlet Analysis

Identify the 10 busiest applications by session-creation rate and the 10 busiest servlets by request rate over the last 24 hours, driven by purpose-built named SQL queries against the OEM metric repository.

Secure JMX with SSL Trust Store Support

Optional JMX username, password, SSL trust store, and trust-store password are built into the plug-in's credential type so you can monitor hardened Tomcat deployments without custom extensions.

Broad Compatibility

Enterprise-ready support across the Apache Tomcat versions, OEM platform, and agent configurations you rely on.

Oracle Enterprise Manager

Cloud Control 24ai (24.1).

Management Agent

Windows and Linux · Cross-platform dispatcher with per-OS fallbacks. Remote monitoring over JMX — Agent does not need to run on the Tomcat host.

How It Works

1

Install the Plug-in

Deploy the OPAR artifact to your OMS and Management Agents using OEM's standard plug-in deployment flow. The plug-in targets Oracle Enterprise Manager 24ai (24.1).

2

Discover & Configure Targets

Add each Tomcat instance as a tomcat target and supply its JMX connection details — host, port, protocol, service name — plus optional JMX username/password and SSL trust store for hardened deployments.

3

Start Monitoring & Managing

Collect 303 metric columns over JMX, view 11 built-in reports, run configuration snapshots, and start/stop the Tomcat server, validate its configuration, or start/stop individual applications — all from OEM jobs.

Ready to Unify Your Java Middleware Monitoring?

See how the Apache Tomcat Plug-in for Oracle Enterprise Manager simplifies JMX monitoring, automates Tomcat service and application control, and brings configuration history into the same OEM console your DBAs already use.
